Young guns news - Friday 11 Dec 09

Richard Blythe (Aston Villa - midfielder) Started as the youth team cruised to the next round of the FA Youth Cup with a 4-0 win against Rochdale on Wednesday night.

Billy Bodin (Swindon - striker) Notched a brace as the U18's beat Plymouth 2-0 last weekend.  The first was a great piece of individual skill in the box and the second was a back post finish.

Nathan Craig (Everton - midfielder) Came out the victor against fellow Wales U19 international Patrick Otte (Middlesbrough - defender) as Everton beat Middlesbrough 1-0 in the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday night.  Craig had one goal ruled out for offside and Otte cleared of the line in a tense encounter.

Chris Maxwell (Wrexham - goalkeeper) Has been offered a new deal at Wrexham after making the new number one jersey his own over the past few weeks.  The Wales U21 international is in the last season of his contract.

Liam Newman (Burnley - striker) Finished off a well worked move with a header from 8 yards as the Clarets beat Scunthorpe 4-1 in the FA Youth Cup this week.  The young striker was joined in the starting XI by Jake McEneaney (Burnley - defender).

Jake Taylor (Reading - striker) Scored the decisive goal as the Royals made it to the next round of the FA Youth Cup with a win against Cheltenham Town.  Taylor bundles in after 95 minutes to secure the win.  The score could have been more but for the fine form of Joe Perry (Cheltenham - goalkeeper).

Young guns news - Sunday 6 Dec 09

Jonathan Bond (Watford - goalkeeper) Made several fine saves as the Hornets stung Wycombe in the FA Youth Cup this week.  In terrible conditions, Bond was called into action regularly as Watford won 3-0.

Jon Brown (Central Coast Mariners - striker) Is currently on a trial period with Central Coast Mariners after being released by Cardiff City last season.

Kayleden Brown (WBA - striker) Struck early and decisively as the Baggies beat Swansea youth at St Helens in the FA Youth Cup this week.  Brown played a one two before drilling the ball past the keeper in the 3-0 win.

Eliott Chamberlain (Leicester - striker) Scored the clincher as the Leicester out foxed Coventry in the FA Youth Cup in midweek.  Chamberlain won a race with the defender before clipping the ball past the keeper to notch the winner in a 3-2 victory.

Josh Dawkin (Norwich - midfielder) Made an appearance off the bench as the Canaries were dumped out of the FA Cup by Carlisle last weekend.  Dawkin came on after 78 minutes with the game already won, with Carlisle 3-1 up, but it was another taste of first team action for the Wales U19 international.

Paul Dummett (Newcastle - defender) Played in the defence that kept a clean sheet against Doncaster in the FA Youth Cup this week.  The Wales U19 international played 90 minutes in the 3-0 win.

Sam Hart (Preston - defender) Played 90 minutes as Preston beat Man City in the shock win in the FA youth Cup this week.  The Lilly whites beat City 2-1.

Gerwyn Jones (Loyola Greyhounds / DC United - defender) Has settled in well in the States, after completing an 8 match ban he helped the Greyhounds who had a dismal start to the season to win the Metro Atlantic Conference Championship. Despite the ban he was voted into the All Rookie Team. Now fully recovered from last seasons injuries, he joins DC United in February.

Stephen Powell (Huddersfield - defender) Was another Wales U19 international to get through to the next round of the FA Youth Cup as Huddersfield beat Atherstone 5-0.
