The Ten group winners and four best runners-up advance to the play-offs. The
fixtures of the seven play-off matches are determined by a draw. The qualified
runners-up teams cannot play against each other. Play-off matches are played
according to the knock-out system, with each team playing each opponent twice in
home and away matches. The seven play-off winners join Sweden in the eight-team
finals.

Wales have been drawn in Group 10, for the UEFA 2009 Under 21 championship. Also
in the group are France, Romania,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Malta. Matches will be
played on a home and away basis. Groups matches are
scheduled to take place between 2 June 2007 and 10 September 2008. The ten group
winners and the four best
runners-up will qualify for the play-offs. These matches will take
place on 11/12 and 14/15 October 2008. The seven winners of the two-legged games
will join Sweden in the final tournament. -
