We'd have a fantastic shot at qualification this time around, but as usual the English prem. managers and officials won't let it happen. Our best players won't be released by their clubs for warm ups and probably a couple of the Euro games. It's diabolical that they're allowed to do it; it wouldn't even be a question for England games. It's time for the players and Sparky to take a stand with these anglocentric bastards. Wales count too! Country first, club second!

i am really confident that wales can qualify for the euro 2004. As long as we get 4 points from our first games against finland and italy. i would also like to say im glad wales are getting new shirts in the summer also.

I think Wales have good a very good chance of qualifying for Euro 2004, but they will have to make a good start to the group to do it. We lost 2-1 away to Belarus in our opening World Cup qualifying game and struggled from there onwards so please lads a win or a draw against Finland is vital then a victory over Italy in Cardiff will set us up nicely.

I believe this is the best chance 4 Wales to qualify for a major championship since 1994 USA. Our Home games are a must win situation with no slip ups like in previous campaigns. Firm favourites Italy can be a upset in our favour. We can even have the confidence to beat Finland and the Yugoslav's (who ain't what they used to be). Cum on WALES, we can do it, and lets cheer the boyos on every game and support them all the way.

I think Germany getting to the final will be a huge boost for the country, because we beat a team of their world cup squad and looked solid i think with alot of concentration and determination we can go on to qualify for Portugal 2004

now that we have a respectable stadium, and a great footballing name mark hughes as a manager who the players can look upto and respect, recent results sugguest and the combination of youth and experience now in the side, i think that welsh football has taken a big step, and the future looks to bring some positive stuff, so lets hope that im right and it all starts in september vs finland.

We have got to do it this time, all our kids are cheering on England!!If we can make it to PORTUGAL the next generation will have footy as wales national sport not the egg chasers that would improve everything from grass roots to L.o.W to our exile clubs and National side. Best opportunity yet!!! Here we come.

With solid and spirited performances in the recent friendlies, the future should be bright for the team. We are becoming increasingly difficult to beat and at times can play some effective attacking play. As always we need to steer clear of injuries, but should be looking at the runners-up spot in group 9. Only Italy worry me home and away - other than that if we can pick up points away and win at home we should be in with a real shout

Another bad draw for the qualifiers but with the great results in recent friendlies I think that we can easily come 2nd. Italy are my favourites for the world cup, but I think that the home game against the Azzuri will be key. With a full house and all of us behind the lads we could snatch a win and be on course for automatic qualification.

The squad are looking quite strong although there may not be enough strength in depth in defence. We are almost spoilt for choice in midfield and it's great to see Robbie Earnshaw scoring on his debut, nice one!!!

I would love to see Sparky go full time but we could risk losing him altogether if we don't let him stay part time.

Isn't it funny to see that england think they can actually win the world cup, never mind qualify from the group phase.

Mark Hughes should, no MUST become the manager of Wales, look at the progress that has been made in 3 years, no progress was made under Gould who made Welsh soccer a joke, under 'sparky' though the sky is now the limit, the glory days are on the way back!!!!!!

After seeing that Italy lost to the Czech Republic, and realising they can stop all the skill in the world, but not pace and brute force, I think we can top this group.
It might seem a stupid comment, but Yugoslavia are a team who are very very much like Ukraine, except not as dangerous, and Finland are a side that we can beat if we play like we did against the Germans, Finland struggled past Latvia recently....

I think it'll be:
Wales
Italy
Yugoslavia
Finland
Azerbaijan

We close down and shut down the best teams in the world, and we will always have chances in our front pair. The Dragon is roaring again.

I wish Sparky's boys the best of luck but I think my home nation Finland can win this group. The Finland squad will be playing not only for their nation but also for Litmanen. Litmanen has had a fantastic career but has never played in a major tournament. The team wants to give their all to allow Jari's dream to come true. We are looking forward to seeing the Welsh supporters in Helsinki & we hope that the game will also be a memorable one.

Good luck ! I really hope Wales can come second in the group. Personally I dispise Italy & Yugoslavia. I think Wales & Finland are better than Yugoslavia but Italy will give us a tough time.

After beating germany 1 nil i think we should be favourites to come runners up in the group. The squad is stronger and stronger every time i watch them play. If we have injured players we always have an excellent selection of young subs like gabbidon, scott young and earnshaw and many more talented youngsters. SO COME ON WALES AND QUALIFY AND SHOW ENGLAND WHO'S BEST!

what a great result against a top international side. This was no 'friendly', Wales have come on leaps and bounds under Mark Hughes. Seem able to frustrate teams with there determined battling style of play, making them hard to beat. Young earnshaw had a great debut and gives us another option. 2004 can be a good chance to perform well and gain more respect.

Well, its giong to be a tough one this year but after seeing the boys perform against Argentina and Czech republic, I see no reason why Wales cant create an upset for one of the big names in the group.

I think, with a bit of luck, Finland and Yugoslavia cancelling one another out, and us winning all home games, or drawing with Italy, winning the other 4, we can make head way, Yugoslavia home so late on could be huge if we're on course for a playoff, I think we can do it, but we have to build the atmosphere.

Sparky is doing a top job with the lads; players like Giggs, Bellamy, Davies and Big John would be a credit to most international sides. It looks like we're starting to bring through some quality new boys too - Koumas, Earnshaw, Gabbidon etc...

One thing - why after two highly creditable draws vs Argentina and the Czech Republic did we get practically no national press recognition?

Here's to a good 2004 qualifying campaign and to mingland losing all 3 in June! Ha Ha!!

I'd like to see the Wales squad keep growing. We had some new faces in against the Czechs, and while they didn't set the world on fire, they produced a sturdy display. The more players Hughesy has to pick from, the better chance we'll have. We need to stop the U-21s and Youth drifting over the border, as I notice that the FAW have offered places in the squads to some young players who are still making their minds up about committing for Wales or England. With a bit of luck (and ESPECIALLY) with the Cardiff players in the squad, more young kids in the capital will want to grow up and play for Wales.

Fingers crossed a good run in the Euro 2004 champs will help. I would be happy with 2nd place, but we should be aiming for 1st! We showed that with a full strength squad we can level with Argentina - why not the same with Italy? It's gonna take 3 things for us to qualify - Guts, guts, guts.

i think that second place is a realistic aim.
italy should easily run away with it, but finland don't look all that great up front as litmanen isn't a regular goalscoring player. yugoslavia are a team that i haven't seen for a while but the last time i saw them they lost 6-1. As for azerbaijan, well i see them as the whipping boys of the group

it isnt going to be a walk over, but if we dont slip up and keep our composure we will be a serious threat to the other teams in our group. the players ar confident but we need the fans to be behind the squad all the way. we need our best side out all the time and we will be hard to beat..

I beleive that sparky has the desire and know how of the game to take Wales into Euro 2004. The team is playing so much better, and as a team, sparky has really pulled everyone together and given them a beleive in themselves. We have also so much young talent coming through, its so encouraging to see, as a welshman. I think sparky is the right guy, and i cant wait to see the boys play again.

I was really encouraged by the display against Argentina. You could sense a far more positive attitude from the team and the fans, and they played with a commitment and passion that was infectious. If they can keep that up, and if our small squad can stay fit, then we can do it. Imagine that! How class would that be?!

The fans are there in huge numbers nowadays, but I think we need to be more of a force. We could be the difference for the team at home when people like Italy visit and play a huge part on the team's performance and on the result. So we need to be more united; singing together like we're supposed to as a nation! I don't know how we'd do this though! When I was on holiday I went to see AS Roma vs Real Madrid in the Stadio Olympico, and they had a kind of chant leader with a megaphone, so that when the crowd got a bit quiet he'd whip them up by leading chants and songs, and it worked amazingly well! I don't think I'm the man to do it, but maybe someone less shy out there could have a go! Or maybe we should get a choir in or something...or maybe not...

Hwyl

its going to be a tough group for our boys to get through but after recent performances i have every faith that we can qualify for euro 2004, mark hughes is an excellent manager and has installed confidence back into our side. it was a great result against argentina and if i'm completely honest i was disapointed with the draw at the end of the match which is a success in itself because a few years ago i would have been delighted with a draw against the world cup favorites.
We have some great talent coming through at the moment e.g craig bellamy, simon davies and we have got a really good mix/ballance between youth and experience. The attacking qualities against argentina was unbelievable and the defence was just as good i haven't seen a wales side perform like that for years, we all have a right to be very confident for the qualifying stages of euro 2004, i am optamistic that we will finish 1st or 2nd and qualify for our first major tournament for years and years
COME ON WALES........SPARKY IS GOD.
P.S we'll have to make a good song up about mark hughes to support him and the boys at the millennium stadium.

i think last night was a great result but lets not get carried away as this was also a below strength argentina side. however there was a lot of things to be happy about , the only thing that dissapointed me was that once again we seem to be held in ransom by man,u as only being allowed to play giggs for 60 minutes. i couldnt see england agreeing to that with beckham o'r any of the other home nations either. ita about time the old guard of the welsh f.a were rid of and new blood brought in like some of the ex players like flynn and yorath. thnk yo

Wales now have a balenced side and subject to injuries, will, I belive perform well in Euro 2004.

By luck or design the young players coming through remind me of the early 1980's. My main concern however is the strngth of the U21's. We need to be bringing more quality through into the Premiership, which lets face it iswhere you have to play to compete on the international stage

good luck sparky and the lads against argentina lets show them how far we've come under the guidance of sparky and give them a right welsh greeting.yet again we've been given a hard task in euro 2004 qualification but with the likes of bellamy-hartson-giggs playing well we have a worldclass strikeforce
my team would be Crossley-delaney-melville-page-barnard-davies-savage-speed-giggs-hartson-bellamy.i would also like earnshaw to be given a chance. i would also say like to i hope to see chrisy coleman back in a welsh shirt a.s.a.p.
