Welsh Football Young Guns update news - by Owain Jones.

Young guns news - Sunday 26-Nov- 06

Matthew Collins (Fulham - midfielder) Played the full 90 minutes for the reserves last night as the Cottagers beat Arsenal 1-0.  The Wales U21 squad member seems to over his injury problems and will now look forward to a healthy run for the reserves to gain confidence.

Kyle Critchell (Southampton/Torquay - defender) Played the full 90 minutes for the Gulls last Saturday, but his loan experience must be quite tough at the moment with Torquay now without a win in nine league games after their defeat to Swindon.

Rob Davies (WBA - midfielder) Has moved on loan to Kidderminster Harriers as the talented midfielder looks to gain some valuable match experience away from The Hawthorns.

Ryan Doble (Southampton - striker) + Lloyd James (Southampton - midfielder) Kayne McLaggon (Southampton - striker) All got game time for the U18 team last Saturday morning in the 4-2 defeat to Crystal Palace.  It seems the Welsh connection at St Mary's continues with the youth team always seeming to have young Dragons in their ranks.

Neal Eardley (Oldham - defender) Got a welcome run out in a behind doors encounter with Liverpool on Tuesday afternoon.  The highly rated full back will now hope to push his way back into the senior starting XI.

Scott Evans (Man City/Swansea) Proved that a move to a Premiership academy is not always the best choice for youngsters.  After moving three years ago from Swansea to City, it seems that the ex Wales U17 captain now wants to get his career back on track in the comforts of his own area. "Man City wanted me to stay and were phoning me all the time to come back. They even offered me a two-year pro contract, but it wasn't for me.  The fact that Shaun MacDonald and Chris Jones have been given a chance at Swansea at a young age convinced me my future was with my hometown club.''  - Scott Evans

David Jones (Man Utd/Derby - midfielder) Is being eyed up by NEC Nijmegen as he looks to progress his career after 12 years at Man Utd.  It seems that the Rams have a deal in place which will let them purchase the Welsh qualified midfielder for £1 million in January, but that has not stopped the Dutch outfit from trying to sneak in.

Michael Pearson (Oldham - defender) Has been made available for a loan move as manager John Sheridan looks to give some of his fringe youngsters a chance to get some vital experience under their belts.

Lewis Powell (Bristol Rovers/Mangostfield - striker) Has seen his footballing education extended by manager Paul Trollope after the club agreed to let him stay for another months loan with Mangotsfield.  His goal ratio stands at three goals in six games at the moment and Trollope is his happy with his progress. "Lewis has progressed well this season, and will continue to benefit from the chance of playing competitive first team football at a decent level with Mangotsfield." Paul Trollope, Bristol Rovers manager

Anthony Pulis (Stoke - midfielder) Has joined Grimsby on loan until January as his Dad looks to give him some valuable game time.  The Wales U21 international has been a constant figure on the bench this season and will now doubt be looking forward to getting out on the pitch again.

Shane Sutton (Shrewsbury - defender) Scored his sides first goal as the Shrewsbury Youth team beat Wrexham 2-0.  The former Wales U17 training squad member cut in to claim a goal with a last touch as the ball went over the line as the Shrews secured a second win of the season.

Owain Warlow (Lincoln - midfielder) Was an unused substitute again this week as the Red Imps lost 3-1 to Darlington last weekend.  The Rhydfelen educated midfielder has been a regular first team squad member during the past few weeks and will now hope to graduate and get some game time in the build up to Christmas.

Dean Grubb (Bristol City - midfielder) Scored with a fine solo goal against Birmingham U18's last Saturday morning.  The Wales U19 international started the move on the half way line before scoring inside the box after a neat one-two.  Although things didn't quite go according to plan as they were edged out 4-3.

Joe Jacobsen (Cardiff - defender) Has seen his proposed loan deal to Torquay collapse after the Torquay chairman refused to sanction the deal for the Wales U21 international.

Lloyd James (Southampton - midfielder) Created havoc with his set pieces on Wednesday night as the reserves made it six wins out of six against Aldershot.  The young midfield schemer saw two of his corners end up with a goals as the U21 international ended the encounter playing in the back four.

Jamie Price (Birmingham - midfielder) Started his second reserve team game on the bounce on Wednesday night but at the unfamiliar position in the back four at full back.  The Blues second string slipped to a second successive defeat with Leeds running out 1-0 winners.

Young guns news - Sunday 12-Nov- 06

Rob Davies (WBA - midfielder) Got a run out for the reserves this week as they crashed out of the Birmingham Senior Cup to Boldmere.  It has been a very impressive return to form for the young midfielder after a lengthy lay off with injury.

Tom Evans (Swindon - defender) Played the full 90 minutes as Swindon youth crushed Swansea 6-0 in the FA Youth Cup in midweek.  The U17 international has been a regular member of the reserves squad this season.

Liam Maloney (Preston - midfielder) Came off the bench to hammer a fourth goal as the North End reserves beat Accrington Stanley 4-0 on Wednesday night.  Maloney the former Wales U17 international stepped off the bench to score his side’s last goal as the reserves made it three wins on the bounce.

Kayne McLaggon (Southampton - striker) Got game time for the U18's again this week whilst some of his team mates were away on international duty.  The Wales U17 international set up one of his side’s goals with an exquisite through ball as his side crushed the Addicks 4-1.  McLaggon was withdrawn in the second half and replaced by former Wales U16 international and Torfaen born Ryan Doble (Southampton - midfielder)

Owain Warlow (Lincoln - midfielder) Was an unused sub for the 2-0 loss to Stockport last Saturday.  The Rhydfelen educated winger was making his first senior squad appearance and will be looking to make a mark in training this week so he can stay involved for the next fixture.

Mike Williams (Wrexham - defender) The Wales U21 international has signed a two and a half year contract at the Racecourse as manager Denis Smith tries to tie down his starlets to long term contracts.

Jamal Easter (Cardiff/Bristol Rovers - striker) Put one over on his big brother Jermaine as the Wales U21 international scored his sides first goal in the 2-0 win over Wycombe on Tuesday night.  The Cardiff born player struck with a cool finish as he starts his loan period with the Pirates.

David Edwards (Shrewsbury - midfielder) Returned to form with a goal as the Shrews beat Yeovil 2-1 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy this week.  Edwards glanced in former Wales semi-pro international Ben Davies' cross to score his sides first goal.

Chris Jones (Swansea - striker) Started for the Swans on Tuesday night in the Johnstone's Paint defeat against Peterborough.  After spurning the advances of Blackburn and Man City in the summer, the local boy will hope to get a lot more game time after Kenny Jackett put Leon Knight on the transfer list last month.  He was joined in the starting XI by Shaun MacDonald (Swansea - midfielder) who along with Jones was withdrawn from the U19 internationals after consoltation with Brian Flynn.
