Young guns news -
Sunday 21-Oct-07 Nicky Adams (Bury - striker) Scored from the
spot and was in the thick of the action as Bury beat Notts County 3-1 last
Saturday. Adams was a constant menace and behind every good attack and got his
rewards as he calmly struck his sides third goal from the spot on 90 minutes.
His fine performances were rewarded with a call up to the U21 international v
Malta this week.
Grant Basey (Charlton - defender) Returned to reserve team
action on Monday night after being allowed to return to Valley Parade by manager
Terry Butcher. The Wales U19 international came off the bench after 29 minutes
as the Addicks beat Brighton 2-0.
"Obviously Grant Basey has gone back and [Reading goalkeeper]
Ben Hamer as well. They have been terrific for us and hopefully they have learnt
a lot about league football.he lads gave them a round of applause in the
dressing room and I hope they will keep in touch. We'll certainly speak to their
respective clubs and send back many positives because they have been terrific
and hopefully they will go on to have great careers." Terry Butcher, Brentford
manager
Jordan Follows (Llanelli - striker) Is being
watched by Blackburn and Man City according to the Llanelli Star. It is
believed that Blackburn are in the process of taking him on trial for a week.
The is on the heels of Llanelli U19 player Keiran Hayes (Llanelli -
defender) being invited by Millwall on trial.
Ian Jones (Southampton - defender) + Kayne McLaggon (Southampton -
striker) Were unused subs as the Saints second string beat Watford 3-2
on Tuesday night. After returning from international duty, both were plunged
into the reserves and will have been unlucky not to get on during the
game.
Gary Preen (Southampton - midfielder) Returned from U17
international duty as he scored his sides third goal as the U18 team beat
Charlton 3-1 at the weekend.
Christian Ribeiro (Bristol City - defender) + James Wilson (Bristol
City - defender) Both started as the City second string went top of the
Pontins Holidays Combination Wales and West division. The U19 internationals
played their part as the reserves beat Plymouth 3-2.
Ashton Taylor (Tranmere - defender) Was again a starter as
the Tranmere reserves beat Chester City on Wednesday night. The former Wales
U15 international has been an ever present in the second string rear guard this
season.
Owain Warlow (Lincoln - midfielder) Came on after 56
minutes in the SKY televised clash against the MK Dons last Sunday. The Wales
U21 international couldn't make much headway though, with the Red Imps crashing
to a 4-0 defeat.
Young guns news -
Monday 15-Oct-07 Nicky Adams (Bury - striker) Used the St
Johnstone's Paint trophy to play himself into a bit of form this week. The
Wales qualified striker set up two of his sides three goals as they beat
Rochdale this week.
Joe Allen (Swansea - midfielder) Returned to first team
action at the weekend with a substitute appearance at the end of the 5-0
thumping of Leyton Orient. He was also a first half replacement on Tuesday
night as the Swans beat Wycombe at the Liberty. Like many of the current Wales
U21 squad, it has been an impressive start for the Pembrokeshire youngster and
he will now hope to stay fit for the important game against Malta at the
Racecourse on the 17th of this month.
Grant Basey (Charlton/Brentford - defender) Returned to
the starting line up as the Bees slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Edgar Street against
Hereford. The former Wales U17 and U19 international had been ruled out of the
previous game with injury but is now back in training as he enjoys his life on
loan at Griffin Park.
Mark Bradley (Walsall - midfielder) Made in two goals in
two appearances as the Saddlers beat Huddersfield 4-0 last Saturday. The
Wordsley born midfielder struck his sides third goal, making no mistake after a
corner had fallen to him.
Chris Davies (Hawkes Bay United - midfielder) The former
Reading academy and Wales youth international is now plying his trade in New
Zealand. After being released by the Royals the now 22 year old went back into
full time education and seems to be enjoying life away from the professional
game.
David Edwards (Luton - midfielder) Limped off after 24
minutes with a pulled hamstring only a few hours after being called into the
senior squad to replace injured midfielder MarkJones
(Wrexham - midfielder).
Lloyd James (Southampton - defender/midfielder) Played in
the back four as the Saints reserves drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace. The Wales
U21 international was the only Welsh representative with Ian Jones
(Southampton - defender) and Kayne McLaggon
(Southampton- striker) both either away or just
having been away on international duty.
Andy King (Leicester - midfielder) Kept hold of his
starting place as the Foxes took on Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. The
former Wales U19 international played 74 minutes as they beat the Owls 2-0. It
will be interesting to see if the Maidenhead born midfielder will be called up
if the Wales U21's have any injuries.
Daniel Knight (Oldham - striker) + KC Owen (Oldham -
striker) Both made appearances for the reserves this week as the Latics
drew 2-2 with Walsall. Both had to pull out of the Wales U19 squad for the Euro
qualifiers in Hungary but were back in senior action for the second string on
Wednesday night.
Josh Knight (WBA - striker) Pushed his way into the
starting XI as the Baggies U18 beat Stoke 2-0 last weekend. The Wales U16
international started as they ended their three game losing streak.
Michael Pearson (Oldham - defender) Has gone on loan to
Farsley Celtic as he looks to get some senior game time under his belt. The 19
year old defender has signed for a month and played in the clubs 3-0 win over
Droylsden on Tuesday night.
Arron Ramsey (Cardiff - midfielder) Made an appearance
with 4 minutes remaining as the Bluebirds beat Burnley 2-1 last Saturday. It
seems that manager Dave Jones has a lot of faith in the talented midfielder and
it will be interesting to see whether he will be a regular starter when the end
of this season comes around.
Neil Taylor (Wrexham - defender) Had been forced to pull
out of the Wales U19 squad due to a calf injury. It has been a fine start for
the youngster, who has forced his way into the starting XI over the past few
weeks. It is now hoped that he will be fit for the U21 international at the
Racecourse next week.
Sam Vokes (Bournemouth - striker) Returned to starting
duties last weekend as the Cherries gave manager Kevin Bond a much needed three
points. The Wales U21 target man was instrumental in his sides 4-1 thrashing of
Crewe at Gresty Road and was unlucky not to score. He like many of his U21
colleagues look like they are hitting top form with the international fixture
against Malta on the horizon.
Owain Warlow (Lincoln - midfielder) The St Johnstone's
Paint trophy game against Hartlepool on Tuesday night gave the manager the
perfect opportunity to give his young charge his first start of the season. The
U21 international winger was lively throughout his time on the field as the game
finished 5-2 to Hartlepool.
Owain Fon Williams (Crewe - goalkeeper) Kept a clean sheet
as a strong Crewe reserve team beat Chesterfield 3-0 on Tuesday night. It has
been a frustrating time for the young North Walian, with second choice keeper
Stuart Tomlinson's injury meaning that he couldn't be loaned out for experience
to another club.
Rhys Williams (Middlesborough - defender) Put in a fine
performance as he looks ahead to next weeks U21 international at the
Racecourse. The young centre half put in some excellent last ditch tackles as
the second string drew 1-1 with Blackburn. He was voted man of the match.
James Wilson (Bristol City - defender) Is hoping to get a
spell away from the club on loan after returning from international duty. It is
thought that the young centre half asked manager Gary Johnson if he could go on
loan in September but the club refused.

Sunday 07-Oct-07
Mark Bradley (Walsall - defender/midfielder) Celebrated his call up to the Wales U21 squad with some game time for
Walsall last weekend. The Wordsley born player stepped off the bench after 77
minutes as his side beat Hartlepool 1-0. The week got better for the youngster
as he started in midweek against Doncaster and cashed in with his sides second
goal as they ran out 3-2 winners.
Simon Church (Reading - forward) Grabbed a goal as the reserves took on a Rams XI
containing Rob Earnshaw (Derby -
striker) on Monday night. The Wales
U21 international scored with a tap in as the Royals drew
1-1.
Ched Evans (Man City -
striker) Drilled in yet another goal
for the reserves to prove that his hot streak from last season was not a once
off. The St Asaph born youngster struck his sides first goal on the half hour
after finding himself in an acre of space in the box as the second string drew
2-2 with Newcastle.
“It’s all good for their education and
progression. Newcastle were narrow in midfield and they had to match that, but
look at how Ched Evans did against Abdoulaye Faye. I thought he was magnificent
but they all stood up and were counted, they really competed but more
importantly we passed the ball well and created chances." Ian Miller, acting
reserve team coach
Dean Grubb
(Weston Super-Mare - midfielder) Has a
second chance to impress Burnley manager Steve Cotterill. The club have been
given permission to have a second look at the ex Bristol City academy graduate,
and will now hope he has done enough to get back in the league on a full time
basis.
Andy King (Leicester -
midfielder) Made a shock debut for the
Foxes in midweek in the stalemate with Wolves. With the rebuilding work under
way at the Walkers Stadium, new boss Gary Megson has given youth a chance. The
18 year old was thrown in as a replacement for the injured Stephen Clemence and
impressed the gaffer on his debut.
"I have only been here a fortnight and I have seen
him play a couple of times. I like what I have seen. I thought he did
exceptionally well for an 18 year old playing against that side." Gary Megson,
Leicester City manager
Kayne
McLaggon (Southampton - striker)
Signed his first pro-contract on his seventeenth birthday last week. He also
started up front on his own as the Saints U18 beat Pompey 2-0 last weekend. The
team was captained by Ian Jones
(Southampton - defender).
Joe Partington (Bournemouth -
midfielder) Was an unused substitute
as the Cherries slumped to another defeat that leaves them marooned at the
bottom of League One. It has been a tough old season so far for manager Kevin
Bond, and with a lack of fit bodies, he gave the Wales U19 midfielder a spot on
the bench alongside Sam Vokes
(Bournemouth -striker) who came
on after 68 minutes in the 2-0 defeat to Brighton.
Jamie Price (Gloucester City -
midfielder) Would now be eligible for
the Wales U23 semi-pro tournament in Italy after signing for Gloucester City.
After being released by Birmingham during the summer, the former Wales youth had
trials with Hereford, Swansea and Yeovil without receiving a firm offer at the
end of it. It is now hoped that he can settle into first team football and work
his way back up the leagues.
Christian Ribeiro (Bristol City - defender) Travelled with the seniors to Preston at the weekend with
his managers praise ringing in his ears. It seems that the 'Robot' as he is
called around Ashton Gate has impressed the manager enough to warrant being
around the first team, and could get a look in sooner, rather than later. He
and James Wilson
(BristolCity - defender)
Were both on fine form in midweek as the reserves coasted to a 3-0 victory over
Cheltenham Town. Wilson was returning after a three week lay off with a knee
injury.
Chris Saunders
(Charlton - defender) Got a run out
for the reserves this week as he tried to shake off the rust of not having a
game for a bit. The Wales U17 international came through 90 minutes as his side
slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Ipswich.
Marc Williams (Wrexham - striker) Made it two goals in two starts as Wrexham earned a welcome
three points last Saturday. The Wales U21 international curled in a superb
strike from the edge of the box to score the only goal of the game in the second
half.
Rhys Williams
(Middlesborough - defender) Played the
full 90 as the Boro reserves beat Everton 3-1 on Tuesday night. It seems the
young centre half is now fully fit and will now hopefully be available to Brian
Flynn when the U21's entertain Malta at the Racecourse on the 17th of this
month.
Young guns news -
Tuesday 02-Oct-07
Nicky Adams (Bury - striker) Scored for the
reserves against Man City this week as the Wales qualified striker tries to kick
start his first team career. After breaking on to the first team scene last
season, the youngster has failed to kick on and nail down a permanent starting
role at the club. He will now hope that this season he will rediscover his
form.
Craig Davies (Oldham - striker) Scored his sides third
goal as the Latics beat Walsall 3-0. The Wales international drilled in his
third of the season from 12 yards as his side cruised to victory. Could there
be a call up on the horizon after an interesting summer of ups and downs.
Ched Evans (Man City - striker) Made a substitute
appearance for City in the Carling Cup this week as Welsh fans found another ray
of hope among the youth. The U21 international came off the bench after 78
minutes as City scraped through to the next round 1-0 winners. He also bagged
two this week as the reserves lost 4-2 to Bury. “He’s got a terrible habit of scoring goals hasn’t he? A lovely, lovely
habit though. His first was a penalty and then a header. I haven’t been here
very long but he looks as though he’s a natural goal scorer and will score goal
wherever. What level he goes on to, that’ll be the key, but he’s doing well at
the moment.” - Ian Miller, temporary reserve team coach
Oliver Hewitt-Fisher (Swansea - forward) + Chris Jones (Swansea -
striker) Both got on the score sheet as the Swans youth team drew 3-3
with Barnet at the weekend. Hewitt-Fisher was the first to score with a header
before Jones stabbed home to give his side an early lead which they failed to
hold on to.
Lloyd James (defender/midfielder - Southampton) Supplied
all the ammunition for his sides 3-2 win against Brighton this week. The Wales
U21 internationals free kicks caused all manner of problems for the Seagulls
second string with all three goals coming from his delivery. It was also a
night which saw Kayne McLaggon (Southampton - striker) making
an appearance from the bench after 25 minutes.
Joe Partington (Bournemouth - midfielder) Was singled out
for special praise by youth team coach Joe Roach as the youth team continued
their unbeaten run. After impressing on international duty and being made
captain of his country at U19 level, Partington was also made captain at his
club as well. Although the young midfielder relinquished the reins at the
weekend as his side drew 1-1 with Brentford. "Joe was released of the captaincy ahead of the game. In previous matches
he's been looking too much at everybody else rather than his own game and he was
back on song at the weekend. It worked a treat and he was back to how we know
he can play." - Joe Roach, youth team coach
Christian Ribeiro (Bristol City - defender) Played 90
minutes as the U18 team thrashed Southampton 4-0 last Saturday morning. The
young defender was also celebrating his call up to the Wales U19 squad for the
Euro qualifiers at the start of October. He was also prominent as the reserves
thrashed AFC Bournemouth 7-1 on Tuesday night.
Ashton Taylor (Tranmere - defender) Was once again in the
back four as the second string kept another clean sheet against Burnley this
week. The former Wales U15 international played the full 90 minutes as Rovers
ran out 2-0 winners.
Marc Williams (Wrexham - striker) Gave his side a lead as
the Dragons slipped to another loss last weekend. The Wales U21 international
was leading the line on his own as he headed in his sides only goal of the game
from a long ball from Wales U19 international Neil Taylor (Wrexham -
defender) who was making his first senior start.
