Sunday 23-Sep-07
Joe Allen (Swansea - midfielder)
Started against Carlisle last Friday night as the Swans came from behind to bag
three points. The Narberth born schemer has started the season in blistering
form and was unfortunate to pick up an injury at the Liberty. Although it does
not seem to be a serious one.
Ched Evans (Man City - striker)
Kept up his hot streak with a hat trick against Sunderland reserves this week.
The Wales U21 international scored all three of his sides goals as they took
Sunderland apart on Wednesday night. Former Wales international and Swansea
manager Kenny Jackett praised the youngsters clinical finishing.
Russell Fry (Boston -
midfielder) Has left the club to join
Blue Square outfit York City. It has been quite an event full few weeks for the
former Hull City player as he tries to make it back into league football.
Owain Tudur Jones (Swansea -
midfielder) Made his long awaited
comeback from injury this week after a miserable last 12 months out with a knee
injury. The former Bangor City midfielder completed 45 minutes without any
reaction against Cheltenham Town on Wednesday night as he steps up his fitness.
Andy King (Leicester -
midfielder) Played 90 minutes as the
reserves beat Oldham 3-0 on Wednesday night. The Wales U19 international has
been an ever present this season and will be pleased with his start to a very
crucial season in his Leicester senior career. The Oldham starting XI contained
Michael Pearson (Oldham -
defender).
Michael Nardiello (WBA - striker) Dug his side out of a hole with a late goal in the reserve
team clash against Stoke this week. The former Liverpool and Man Utd academy
member came on at half time for John Hartson to strike his his sides equaliser
in the 2-2 draw.
Christian
Ribeirio (Bristol City - defender)
Scored for the reserves as they beat Charlton this week. The Wales U19
international has started the season well, and will now look to be involved when
Brian Flynn names his squad for the U19 qualifiers this week.
Ashton Taylor (Tranmere -
defender) Was once again in the
starting XI as the second string took on Accrington Stanley on Wednesday night.
The former Wales U15 international played 90 minutes as his side drew 0-0.
Rhoys Wiggins (Crystal Palace -
defender) Made his return from a
lengthy lay off with an appearance for the reserves this week. Unfortunately it
ended with the U21 international limping off before half time. It is not yet
known how serious the injury is.
Owain Fon Williams (Crewe - goalkeeper) Has seen his chances of going out on loan disrupted by the news that
second choice keeper Stuart Tomlinson has broken his thumb in training. It
seems that Tomlinson will now be out for around 6 weeks which will mean that
Williams will be needed as cover.
Rhys Williams (Middlesborough - defender) Is now back to full fitness after the injury that forced
him out of the Wales U21 international with France. The Australian born centre
half played 90 minutes as the second string beat Newcastle 2-0 on Wednesday
night.

Grant Basey (Charlton/Brentford - defender) Has extended his stay at Griffin Park for a third and final month.
Despite conceding a penalty that led to the winning goal for Wycombe Wanderers
against the Bees on Saturday, left-back Basey has been a big hit at Griffin Park
in his first spell in the Football League. Saturday's defeat was the Bees'
first league loss of the season, and Basey has played a big part in the start of
Terry Butcher's side to the 2007/08 campaign.
Mark Bradley (Walsall -
defender/midfielder) Skippered the
reserves this week as they took on the Baggies. The Wales U21 international
played the full 90 minutes as the Saddlers went down narrowly
2-1.
Simon Church (Reading -
midfielder) Scored a goal as the
Royals second string put Cardiff to the sword on Tuesday night. The Bluebirds
were stuffed 6-0 with Church getting the third goal as he finished off inside
the box after good work from his team mate.
Ched Evans (Man City - striker) Grabbed a pair as the second string beat Blackpool on
Wednesday night. The Wales U21 international scored a header first and then
converted a penalty he had won himself and will now hope to continue the form
that saw him tear defences apart last season.
Michael Johnston (Tranmere/Bangor - defender)
Has gone on loan to the Citizens after
manager Ronnie Moore gave him the opportunity to play competitive football.
Tranmere are following a route taken by Swansea who have struck up an agreement
with Port Talbot to send some youngsters to the Welsh Premier for
experience.
Jonathon North
(Watford - goalkeeper) Had a decent
game between the sticks as the U18 team lost narrowly to Portsmouth last
Saturday. The Wales U19 keeper pulled off some fine saves, but it was not quite
enough to earn a point. The Portsmouth bench contained Geraint Price (Portsmouth - defender) who came on in the second half.
Rhys Williams (Middlesborough -
defender) Made a start for the
reserves this week as he returned quickly from the injury that forced him to
miss the U21 international against France last Friday. The Australian born
centre half played for 74 minutes as his side beat Wigan 4-0.

Grant Basey (Brentford -
defender) Continues to be a first team
regular for the Bees this season. The Wales U17 international played the full
90 minutes as his side ran out 2-1 winners. Word is out that a certain Brian
Flynn was in the crowd.
Craig Davies (Oldham -
striker) Struck his third goal of the
season but his side were over run by Hartlepool last Saturday. It was a tough
afternoon for the Wales international as the Latics toiled, but he will have
been encouraged by his scoring start to the season.
Russell Fry (Boston -
midfielder) Has left Halifax and
joined Boston Utd on non contract terms. After being released by Hull City at
the end of last season, it has been a tough few months for the ex Wales schools
international, and he will now hope to kick start his footballing career.
Andy King (Leicester -
forward) Was another ex U19
international to get a run out for the reserves this week. The Barnstaple born
forward played the full 90 minutes as the Foxes beat Lincoln 1-0. The Red Imps
starting line up contained Owain Warlow
(Lincoln -midfielder).
Michael Johnston (Tranmere - defender) +
Ashton Taylor (Tranmere - defender)
Were once again in reserve team action for Tranmere this week. Both played the
full 90 as they claimed a point in a 1-1 draw against Morecombe. Both will look
to stake a claim for a first team squad place this season as they look to
progress at Prenton Park.
Liam
Maloney - After being released by
Preston at the end of last season turned down the offer of a contract with
Fleetwood Town to take up a scholarship in the States.
Geraint Price (Portsmouth -
centre half/centre forward) Has just
joined Portsmouth on a two year scholarship after impressing during a trial.
The 16 year old Ysgol Bro Myrddin youngster will now start life at Fratton Park
after being spotted by Glan Letheren the former Leeds and Swansea
keeper.
Chris Saunders (Charlton
- defender) Was given another year by
Charlton as they felt he had not been given a fair chance after his injury
nightmare. After recovering from post fatigue syndrome he suffered knee
ligament damage and a broken foot, so he will spend the season with the reserves
to prove that he can make the grade. All at YG wish him all the best this
season.
Rhys Taylor (Chelsea -
goalkeeper) Played for the reserves
this week as they entertained Derby on Monday night. And it was to be a
goodnight for the Wales U21 international as he pulled off some fantastic saves
as his team ran out 3-1 winners. It will now be a straight race between himself
and Owain Fon Williams (Crewe -
goalkeeper) for the number one jersey
when Wales take on France tonight.
James Wilson (Bristol City - defender) Played 78 minutes as the reserves smashed Cardiff City 5-1 this week.
He will have gained a great deal of experience from the game, having to mark
Robbie Fowler. It comes in a week where the talented defender made the standby
list for the Wales U19 international against Germany.

Joe Allen (Swansea - midfielder) Celebrated
his call up to the Wales U21 squad by pitting his wits against Premiership
players this week as the Swans took on Reading in the Carling Cup. The Narberth
born schemer played the full 90 as the Swans lost in extra time 1-0. The
Reading bench contained Simon Church (Reading - midfielder) who
was an unused sub.
Jon Brown (Cardiff - midfielder) Got his sides break
through in an amazing second half performance from the Cardiff U18 side. The
young Bluebirds came from a 1-0 half time to win the game 5-1 with Brown
slotting in his sides equaliser.
Simon Church (Reading - forward) Was at the heart of most
good moves as the Royals second string thrashed Birmingham 6-0 on Wednesday
night. It seems that Brian Flynn has seen enough from the youngster to make him
a permanent call up to the U21's and he toasted this by scoring twice in the
second half. His first was a left footed strike into the bottom corner before
producing a 20 yard chip to beat the keeper with his second.
Ched Evans (Man City - striker) Picked up an injury this
week, causing him to miss the reserve team clash in midweek. It is not know how
serious the injury is at the moment or whether it is serious enough to keep him
out of the U21 internationals.
Sean Evans (Man Utd - midfielder) Got some game time under
his belt this week as the Utd reserves took on Everton. The former Shrewsbury
youth played the full 90 as Utd ran out 1-0 winners.
Joe Jacobsen (Bristol Rovers - defender) Was over the moon
to score his second ever league goal on Saturday against Oldham. The Wales U21
international struck before half time with the only goal of the game as the
Pirates took all three points.
Michael Johnston (Tranmere - defender) + Ashton Taylor (Tranmere -
defender) Michael Both made starts in the rearguard as Tranmere reserves beat
Rochdale this week. The former schoolboy and youth internationals played the
full 90 minutes, with Taylor nearly getting on the score sheet with a lob that
was cleared off the line in the second half.
Max Noble (Fulham - striker) Made an appearance as a sub
for the Fulham reserves against Arsenal this week. The Newport born forward
came on after 55 minutes as the Cottagers crashed 2-1 to the Gunners.
KC Owen (Oldham - striker) Struck as the Latics reserves
went down 3-1 against Stoke. The Anglesey born striker scored with 30 yard
screamer to get his side back level with, but it was not enough as the Potters
downed the home side. The game also saw the first appearance of the season of
Michael Pearson (Oldham - defender) who played the full 90.
