Welsh Football Young Guns update news - by Owain Jones.

Young guns news - Friday 24-Aug-07

Mark Bradley (Walsall - defender/midfielder) Made an appearance from the bench as the Saddlers chased the game against Leyton Orient at the weekend.  The Wales U21 international was brought on with 23 minutes to go and will have enjoyed his first taste of the season if not the result as his team lost 1-0.

Josh Klein-Davis (Bristol Rovers - striker) Scored from the penalty spot but it wasn't enough to earn his side the points against Plymouth this week. The former Bristol City academy player struck from the spot in the first half as his side shared the spoils.

Lloyd James (Southampton - defender/midfielder) Was another of our young guns to make a reserve team appearance this week as the Saints trounced Wycombe 5-0 on Tuesday night.  The Wales U21 international played the full 90 minutes in the back four as they rallied to keep a clean sheet.  The bench contained Wales U17 international Kayne McLaggon (Southampton - striker) who was an unused sub.

Gerwyn Jones (Tranmere - defender) + Ashton Taylor (Tranmere - defender) Both played they're part as the second string started the season with a win.  The former Wales U16 internationals started at the back as they beat Bury 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Andy King (Leicester - midfielder) Started as the second string took on neighbours Nottingham Forest this week.  The Wales U19 international played nearly the whole game as the Foxes lost 2-1.

Kayne McLaggon (Southampton - striker) Played the full 90 minutes as the Saints U18 drew 1-1 with Millwall on the opening weekend of the season.  The Wales U17 striker will now hope to push on like many Welsh youngsters before him and break into the reserve team squad.

Chris Saunders (Charlton - defender) Made his first appearance of the new season for the reserves this week against Leyton Orient.  The Wales U17 international played the full 90 minutes as the Addicks cruised to a 1-0 win.  After a horrendous 18 months, it is now hoped that Saunders can regain the form that saw him win honours at youth level.

Owain Warlow (Lincoln - midfielder) Like fellow U21 international Mark Bradley got off the bench at the weekend as the Red Imps beat Mansfield 3-1.  It is hoped that the former Rhydfelen product will now push on the this season after signing his two year deal with the club.

James Wilson (Bristol City - defender) Prodded in a goal as the Robins grounded the Swans in the reserve team encounter on Wednesday night.  After a goal mouth scramble the youth international stabbed the ball in to notch up his sides first goal in a 3-2 win.  Wilson was joined in the City rearguard by Christian Ribeiro (Bristol City - defender) who was returning to action after injury.

Young guns news - Sunday 19-Aug-07

Joe Allen (Swansea - midfielder) Played 90 minutes as the Swans cruised through to the next round of the Carling Cup against Walsall this week.  The Wales U21 midfielder was very impressive and may be the first signet to make the first team on a regular basis this season, possibly ahead of older team mates like Matthew Collins (Swansea - midfielder) and Shaun MacDonald (Swansea - midfielder).  He has also been rewarded this week with a three year deal by Roberto Martinez.

Grant Basey (Charlton/Brentford - defender) Played the full 90 minutes as the Bees drew 1-1 with Mansfield on the opening weekend of the season.  The former Wales U17 international has been allowed to go out on loan to gain some league experience and may well find himself unlucky not to be in the U21 squad named by Brian Flynn this week.  He has also prolonged his stay with the Bees for another month after impressing manager Terry Butcher.

Mark Bradley (Walsall - defender) Was an unused sub as the Saddlers drew 1-1 with Carlisle last Saturday.  The Wales U21 international has been a regular with the first team during pre-season and will be keen to show what he can do over the coming months.

Adam Davies (Cambridge - defender) Has been forced to retire after a serious knee injury failed to heal sufficiently enough for him to continue his career.  It must be the hardest news of all to take on board as a footballer, so all at YG News wish him all the best for the future.

Craig Davies (Oldham - striker) Kept up his good start to the season with another goal as Oldham beat Mansfield comfortably 4-1.  The Wales international was a constant menace to the Stags rearguard and will now hope to put his career back on track after falling by the wayside slightly with Wolves.

Rhys Taylor (Chelsea - goalkeeper) Was playing against the cream of Europe in the Champions when he heard of his call up to the U21's.  The young stopper was in action against Bayern Munich this week for the Blues U19 team and will now hope to push Owain Fon Williams (Crewe - goalkeeper) for the number one slot that Wayne Hennessey (Wolves - goalkeeper) relinquished last season.

Owain Warlow (Lincoln - midfielder) Has agreed terms on a new two year deal at the club after initially stalling as he looked for a longer commitment.  "Owain has great potential to become an excellent player.  He's got terrific pace and it's players like Owain that we want to keep hold of and to develop into quality players." John Schofield, Lincoln Manager

Marc Williams (Wrexham - striker) Bagged a brace as the Dragons reserve team beat Welsh Premier outfit Airbus 3-2 on Wednesday night.  The young striker has been singled out by manager Brian Carey as a first team player this season grabbed one with his head and a smart finish from six yards as his side came from behind to clinch the win.
