Young guns news - Wednesday 25 May 11

James Bloom (Falkirk - defender) Is one of 18 players released at the end of the season.  The former Cardiff City youth team player will now look for a new club over the summer.  

Kayleden Brown (WBA - striker) Is struggling with knee and groin injuries at the moment as he tries to get fit.  Brown has been out on loan to Dagenham and Redbridge and Tranmere Rovers this season.

Troy Brown (Ipswich - defender) Has signed a 12 month contract extension at Portman Road.  Manager Paul Jewell has handed out shorter contracts to the youngsters to try and come back hungrier for pre-season as they look to earn longer deals.

Nathan Craig (Everton - midfielder) Has been released and will now spend the summer looking for a new contract.  It is always a tough time for youngsters, and Young Guns wish him all the best for the future.

Sean Geddes (Walsall - midfielder) Has been released by the Saddlers and will be another youngster on the look out for a new club.  The Wales U19 international has been on the fringes of the first team squad this season without making the break through.  

Matt Harriott (Sheffield United - midfielder) Played 90 minutes as the U18's drew 2-2 with Man Utd in the FA Youth Cup Final first leg.  The 2nd leg didn't go to plan with the Blades beaten 2-0.  Harriott has been on standby for the Wales U21's this season and will hope to pick up some silverwear in what has been a tough few weeks for the Bramall Lane side.

Sam Hart (Preston - defender) Has not been retained by the Lillywhites as manager Phil Brown shapes his squad to try and get promotion back to the Championship next season.

Adam Henley (Blackburn - defender) Had a hand in the winning goal as the Rovers reserves beat Man Utd 1-0 in the semi final of the Lancashire Youth Cup.  They will now face Preston in the final during the summer.

Jonathan Meades (Cardiff City - midfielder) Has been offered a new professional contract and Alex Evans (Cardiff City - defender), Ibrahim Farrah (Cardiff City - midfielder) and Nat Jarvis (Cardiff City - striker) have been offered senior terms. 

Kyle McCarthy (Hereford - defender) Returned from international duty to be told that he would be offered a pro contract at Edgar Street.  The Ebbw Vale raised defender will now look to make an impression over the summer. He was the only youth team player to be offered a deal.

Aynsley McDonald (Rushden and Diamonds - defender) Spent the last few months of the season on loan at Banbury as he looked to get more first team experience away from Nene Pak.  

Patrick Otte (Fort Lauderdale Strikers - midfielder) Has signed with Fort Lauderdale Strikers after being released as a third year scholar at Middlesbrough.

Mason Spence (MK Dons - defender) Congratulations to Wales qualified defender Mason Spence on securing his first professional contract at the club.  

Two loan signings that slipped under the radar during the season were
James Wood (Man City) who spent time at Exeter and Elliot Parish (Aston Villa) who had a spell at Lincoln City.  Even though they play for Scotland and England youth respectively, both are Welsh qualified.


Young guns news - Friday 13 May 11

Billy Bodin (Swindon - striker) Played another 90 minutes for the first team as they beat Tranmere 2-0.  Bodin has taken his chance under father Paul and will now hope to push on from here.

Elliott Hewitt (Macclesfield - defender) Made his debut for Macclesfield against Hereford last weekend.  The 16 year old full back played 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw.  He also had extra cause to celebrate as he signed a two year contract after impressing the management with his performances.

Matthew Harriott (Sheff Utd - midfielder) Was an unused sub as the Swans sunk the Blades 4-0 last Saturday. 

Adam Henley (Blackburn - defender) Played the full 90 minutes at right back in their 2-1 defeat of Man Utd on Wednesday.  Rovers were crowned Reserve League North champions after the match.  

Jack Mackreth (Tranmere - midfielder) Has been given the dreaded news that he will not be offered a new contract at Prenton Park.  The youngster has been on the fringes of the first team on occasions this season, but will now plan for life at another club.  

Richard Peniket (Fulham - striker) Stepped off the bench as Fulham U18's beat Sunderland after a penalty shoot out on Tuesday evening.  Fulham will now advance to the Premier Academy League Final.

Paul Walker (Northampton - goalkeeper) Has been offered a new contract at Sixfields.  Walker missed part of the season with an injury and will look to get a good pre season behind him.

Sam Wedgbury (Macclesfield - midfielder) Has signed a new contract that will keep him at Moss Rose until 2013.  Wedgbury has played 26 times for the club after signing from Sheffield United.

James Wilson (Bristol City - defender) Started again for the Robins as they finished the season with another three points.  Wilson must wish that the season would continue longer after finally getting over his knee injury.  He was joined in the match day squad by Aaron Holloway (Bristol City - defender/midfielder/striker) who was an unused sub.


Young guns news - Saturday 7 May 11

Billy Bodin (Swindon - striker) Got the start he's been pushing for as Swindon took on Oldham last weekend.  Bodin was chosen to start under the new caretaker manager, Dad Paul.

Troy Brown (Ipswich - defender)
Picked up a start for Ipswich as the Tractor Boys beat Preston 2-1.  Brown made is first start for the Portman Road club since last January.  

Joe Culshaw (Morecambe - defender) Receives youth team player of the year after playing every game for the youth and most reserve games.

Ben Davies (Swansea City - defender) + Gwion Edwards (Swansea City - midfielder) Kurtis March (Swansea - midfielder) + Jordan Smith (Swansea City - midfielder) Have been offered pro contracts at The Liberty after imrpessing coach Tony Pennock and the Swansea coaching staff.  Smith and March were once on the books of Cardiff City.

Iain Edmunds (Shrewsbury - defender) Has been given the news that he will not be kept on at the club as a third year scholar.  This time of year can be a hard time for youngsters as they await news from academy or youth team coaches. 

Jack Evans (Gilingham - defender)
Has been offered a pro contract after impressing manager Andy Hessenthaler and the youth team coaches.   

Sean Geddes (Walsall - midfielder) Has gone on loan to Redditch fc as he looks to get some senior team game time.  The former Wales U19 international has been on the fringes of the first team on several occasions this season without getting a run. 

Jordan Holt (Hull - defender) Played his first 45 minuites after returning from injury last weekend.  Holt played the first half in the youth sides 3-0 win against Grimsby. 

Leon Newell (Birmingham - striker) Played 90 minutes for the U18's as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 last Saturday. 

James Wilson (Bristol City - defender) Finally got his first team chance as the Robins beat Derby at Pride Park last Saturday.  Wilson has had some cruel work with injury over the past few seasons and will now look to finish the season strong. He also recieved high praise from keith millen and will keep his place for the last game of the season at home to Hull City.
