Welsh Football Young Guns update news - by Owain Jones.

Young guns news - Sunday 17-Feb-08

Jon Brown (Cardiff - striker) Came off the bench with 12 minutes to go as the Bluebirds drew 0-0 at the Ricoh Arena v Coventry on Tuesday night.  It has been an exciting seven days for the after making his debut for the Wales U21's in Malta last week and could get better as the first team squad will be minus Joe Ledley and Glenn Loovens for a few weeks.

Jack Collison (West Ham - midfielder) Was an unused sub last weekend as the Hammers drew with Birmingham.  He also led his reserve side to victory over Birmingham on Tuesday night.  The Wales U21 international played 90 minutes as the Hammers cruised to a 4-1 win with Collison getting his sides only goal of the first half with a drilled effort from the right side of the penalty area.

Ched Evans (Man City/Norwich - striker) Stunned Ninian Park with a superb strike last Saturday to clinch all three points for his side.  The game was all set for a draw before the St Asaph born striker unleashed a superb 35 yard shot to claim the points with his second goal of the game.

Rostyn Griffiths (Blackburn/Gretna - midfielder) Made his first appearance for Gretna last Saturday.  The Australian born midfielder played 59 minutes as Gretna slumped to another defeat which leaves them rooted to the base of the Scottish Premier, nine points behind second from bottom Kilmarnock.

Lloyd James (Southampton - defender/midfielder) Was named among the substitutes for the first time as the Saints lost 3-2 to Stoke on Tuesday night.  The Wales U21 international failed to get off the bench, but will have been heartened by his first call up to the match day 16.

Andy King (Leicester - midfielder) Struck as the Foxes second string beat Wolves 4-1 on Wednesday evening.  It has been a tough couple of months for King, after losing his place initially due to injury he then had to watch new manager Ian Holloway bring in his own men into the squad.  But hopefully his goal and another reserve game will have given him fresh impetus to re claim his place.

Joe Partington (Bournemouth - midfielder) Was on an unused sub as the Cherries lost 2-0 to Doncaster this week.  The Wales U17&U19 international has been around the first team for some time now, and will hope to make an impression when he gets his chance.

Michael Pearson (Oldham - defender) Returned from injury with a goal as the reserves beat Bradford 2-1 this week.  Pearson who was skipper for the evening bagged his goal in the first half with a well taken header from an inch perfect free kick.  He was joined in the starting XI by Daniel Knight (Oldham - defender) and later on by KC Owen (Oldham - striker) who was a second half sub.

Anthony Pulis (Stoke/Bristol Rovers - midfielder) Made an appearance off the bench for Rovers on the weekend as the Wales U21 midfielder started his loan spell.  He was also an unused sub in midweek as Rovers beat Oldham 1-0.

Aaron Ramsey (Cardiff - midfielder) Played the full 90 minutes as Cardiff drew with Coventry 0-0 in midweek. Manager Dave Jones urged the Welsh public and media not to heap too much expectation on the shoulders of the Wales U21 international this week, as calls grow for him to be included in the next senior Wales squad.

Marc Williams (Wrexham - striker) Scored the winner as the Dragons reserves beat Accrington Stanley 2-1 on Wednesday night.  The brother of Wales U21 international Mike Williams (Wrexham - defender) has slipped down the pecking order slightly at the Racecourse under new manager Brian Little and will have been buoyed by his winner in the 73rd minute.

Rhys Williams (Middlesborough - defender) Played 90 minutes for the reserves in midweek. The central defender came through unscathed as the Boro second string drew 0-0 with Everton.

Young guns news - Sunday 3-Feb-08

Simon Church (Reading/Yeovil - striker) Celebrated a call up to the Wales U21 squad by going out on loan to Yeovil until the end of the season.  After making 13 appearances for Crewe on loan, he will now hope to get back into the groove and score the goals to get his new side into the play off positions.

Ched Evans (Man City/Norwich - striker) Struck the only goal of the game as the Canaries won away on the south coast in mid week.  As the game entered the last minute of the first half, Evans wrong footed his marker before crashing the ball into the roof of the net from 12 yards to claim all three points.  He will now stay on loan at Carrow Road until the end of the season after an agreement was reached between the two clubs.

Sean Evans (Man Utd - midfielder) Was involved in the Manchester Senior Cup on Thursday night as the second string Red Devils beat Bolton 3-2.  Evans was on the score sheet again, sliding in his sides first goal after 12 minutes.  It is not known whether Brian Flynn can get anywhere the former Shrewsbury youth team player at the moment, but he would obviously be a valuable addition to the Wales set up if he agreed to pin his colours to the international mast.

Rostyn Griffiths (Blackburn/Gretna - midfielder) Has joined Gretna on a month long loan after signing on at Ewood Park til the summer of 2009.  Griffiths could make his debut against Motherwell this weekend.

Chris Gunter (Spurs - defender) Played 63 minutes for Spurs this week as they drew 0-0 with Everton on Wednesday evening.  He will also be very aware that things could change for him after the club bought Alan Hutton from Rangers for a very large fee.

Lloyd James (Southampton - midfielder) Got another reserve team run out as the Saints beat Aldershot 2-1 on Wednesday night.  With a new manager not yet appointed at St Mary's, he will need to keep up performances to have a future on the South coast.  He was joined on the field in the second half by Kayne McLaggon (Southampton - striker).

Elliott Parrish (Aston Villa - goalkeeper)
Kept a clean sheet as Villa swept aside the Tractor boys in the FA Youth Cup.  The former Victory Shield squad member did not have much to do as they easily ran out 5-0 winners.

Aaron Ramsey (Cardiff - midfielder) Got another start under his belt this week as the Bluebirds play off charge begins to pick up momentum.  Ramsey played 90 minutes alongside Gavin Rae in midfield as Cardiff ran out 3-1 winners against the much improved QPR.

Rhys Taylor (Chelsea - goalkeeper) Advanced to the next round of the FA Youth cup as the Blues out foxed Leicester this week.  Taylor who has been on the bench for the first team after a goalkeeping crisis at Stamford Bridge has been in fine form for the youth and reserve team this season, will now have one eye on the Wales U21 number one jersey.

Sam Vokes (Bournemouth - striker) Netted his fifth goal in ten games as his season starts to pick momentum.  The Wales U21 striker found goals hard to come by at the start of the season, but another goal within the first 10 minutes gave his side an early lead as they beat Port Vale 3-1.  It has been an intense week for the Lymington born striker who has been courted by clubs in the last few days of the transfer window.

Ashley Williams (Stockport - defender) Returned to first team action in midweek as the they drew 2-2 Chesterfield.  He played 90 minutes at right back as his side twice come from behind to snatch a point.
