Welshman Mark Harris Hoping to Fire Wrexham back to the Football League

Cardiff City's Mark Harris is no stranger to a loan move, with the 20-year-old having spent time at both Port Vale and Newport over the last twelve months. The Welsh Under-21 star will spend the 2019-2020 campaign at the Racecourse Ground, and will be aiming to fire his new side to National League glory this campaign.

The attacker has played eleven times for the Under 21s and will be hoping that his latest move will help him attract the attention of Ryan Giggs, and potentially earn him the chance to represent his country in the future. He has also featured for the Under 17s, Under 19s and Under 20s and his industrious performances have certainly caught the eye.

Harris is the fourth player to join Bryan Hughes' outfit this summer and the versatile Swansea-born forward will be hoping to fire the Red Dragons back to the EFL. They finished fourth last year but were beaten by Eastleigh in the quarter-finals of the playoffs, so will be desperate to make amends for that narrow defeat. They crashed out of the Football League in 2008 and despite seven top-half finishes, they have been unable to return to the fourth tier in eleven attempts.

Despite their recent failures, Flynn's men have been priced up as fourth favourites for the title this year, and a number of sportsbooks including Energy Bet are currently offering a double-figure price on the Dragons to finish top of the pile. They are one of a handful of online bookmakers who currently have a 5 no deposit bonus available for all new customers and this could potentially be used on one of their many non-league ante-post betting markets.

Harris netted twice in sixteen appearances for Newport and made a very promising start to his spell at Rodney Parade. However, he suffered concussion whilst representing the Under 21s, and was unable to regain his place on the side. Exiles boss Mike Flynn was keen to retain his services, but a deal failed to materialise and he returned to the Cardiff City Stadium in January 2019.

He suffered similar frustrations during his loan spell at Port Vale, making just six first-team appearances, with 50% of those outings coming from the bench.

Harris will be aiming to hit the ground running and will be hoping to win over the sizeable Wrexham fanbase. He will have to adapt quickly to the physicality of the National League and may take a few weeks to adjust. Hughes' men get their campaign underway on August 3rd against Barrow at the Racecourse Ground, and he will be joined by fellow new recruits JJ Hooper, Devonte Redmond and Leighton McIntosh.

The future looks bright for Mark Harris, and it surely won't be long before he is called up to the Welsh squad. However, after a stuttering start to his career, he must take full advantage of this latest loan spell and help Wrexham finally return to the Football League.
