2010 WORLD CUP: Finland 2 Wales 1

FINLAND (1) 2 WALES (1) 1. A disappointing 2-1 defeat for Wales in Helsinki against Finland.
The home side took the lead after 5 minutes through Porokara, Wales fought back well and deservedly equalised after 17 minutes when a David Vaughan cross found Craig Bellamy running into the area, he finished well. Wales controlled the rest of the half with good movement from Vaughan, Edwards, Church and Bellamy but failed to capitalise and take a half time lead.
Second half was poor, as Wales tired and with Finland creating more chances they took lead on 76 minutes, when left full back Moisander broke into the Wales area and finished well in the bottom corner. A disappointing defeat after showing some good promise after levelling the score at 1-1.
Wales travel to Vaduz on Wednesday to face Liechtenstein in the last 2010 World Cup qualifier. Both Wayne Hennessey and captain Craig Bellamy miss the game due to suspension

2010 WORLD CUP: Wales 1 Russia 3

WALES (0) 1 RUSSIA (1) 3: Semshov 36. Collins 54. Ignashevich 71. Pavlyuchenko 90.
The visitors were 1-0 up at half time courtesy of an excellent finish by Semshov after being put through by Arshavin on 36 minutes. Wales started the brighter of the two teams in the second half and deservedly levelled when on 54 minutes James Collins flicked in Craig Bellamy corner at the near post.
David Edwards had a glorious chance mid way through the second half to give Wales lead, but Russian keeper Akinfeev saved well. Against the run of play Russia took the lead on 71 minutes when Ignashevich miss hit free kick on the edge of the box somehow found the bottom corner.
As Wales pressed for an equaliser late on, substitute Pavlyuchenko earned Russia the three points with an excellent left foot finish.

Craig Bellamy is back as captain, and will probably partner Sam Vokes up-front. Joe Ledley, who will wear plastic protection over a broken bone in his hand, will face the Russians, after the match referee gave him the all clear to play. Danny Gabbidon, James Collins and Ashley Williams are expected to play in defence, while Chris Gunter has recovered from an ankle injury and is available for selection.
Wales will be in all read. Match Referee is Manuel Jorge Neves Moreira de Sousa (Portugal).
There are senior call ups for Christian Ribeiro (Bristol City) and Shaun MacDonald (Swansea City). Jason Koumas (hamstring) has withdrawn from the squad and has also retired from international football with immediate effect. Both Andy King (injured) who was called up on Saturday, and Lewin Nyatanga (illness) have withdrawn from the squad. Chris Gunter is expected to recover from a hamstring strain. In addition both Jack Collison and Simon Church are expected to withdraw with both players having personal commitments to fulfil following the deaths of their respective fathers.
The squad will train twice on Monday, with a further two training sessions ahead of the game on Wednesday. Craig Bellamy is set to captain the side. John Toshack will hold a pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

The squad will train at the Millennium Stadium on Thursday afternoon, with two other training sessions before the game on Saturday. Match referee is Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez from Spain. Wales will be in all Red. Both Neal Eardley and Rhys Williams have joined the Under 21 squad in Luxembourg.
Both Gavin Williams (calf) and Craig Morgan (foot) are out. Craig Bellamy played 25 mins for Man City on Sunday. The FAW remain optimistic that James Collins will be ok, a spokesman said: "It is not ideal that James will not have played any football ahead of the internationals, but he seems confident he will be OK".

Gareth Bale is set to face a late fitness test on an ankle injury picked up against Liechtenstein, He has travelled with the squad to Germany. Gareth has an ankle knock, the FAW will know more after this morning's training session (Tuesday 14th). The FAW are hoping he will ok. It looks like Bale has come through this morning's training and should be available for selection.
Sam Vokes has joined the Under 21 squad for the UEFA U21 second leg match with England at Villa Park. Steve Evans who was called into the squad as defensive cover last week has been allowed to leave and has returned to his club. Lewin Nyatanga who played for the Under 21 side in the first leg against England will travel to Germany with the senior squad. The squad have today off (Sunday 13th) but will meet up this evening ahead of the game in Germany on Wednesday. Players and officials will fly out on Monday afternoon, with an open training session on Tuesday afternoon.

TEAM NEWS Sam Ricketts is a major doubt, the Hull City defender was expected to start the game but missed Tuesday's training session after picking up a virus. "I would say it is 50-50 for him to be involved." - boss John Toshack.
Jason Koumas will not travel to Moscow for game against Russia. It has been decided that in the best interests of the player he returns to his club to rest his ankle injury. Good news on Gareth Bale, the left back is fit and will be available for selection. Paul Parry will not travel with the squad as he has decided to retire from international football.
Jason Koumas admits he is "struggling" to be fit for the game in Moscow. Gareth Bale complained "a little bit of groin injury" in the second-half of the game against Azerbaijan but he is expected to be fit.
The Football Union of Russia has confirmed the venue and kick off time for game against Russia. The match will be played at the Lokomotiv Stadium in Moscow with a 7pm kick off. (4pm in the UK)

Both Jason Koumas and Robert Earnshaw have been passed fit for the opening 2010 World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan.

The fixture meeting to decide the match schedule for Group 4 Qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup will be held in Frankfurt, Germany on Thursday 10th January 2008.
The group means Wales are reunited with Germany from the recently completed Euro 2008 Qualifiers. Wales last met Filand in the Euro 2004 Qualifiers and then Russia in the play-off matches. Also in that qualifying group were Azerbaijan, who also featured in the World Cup Qualifying Group for 2006.
