RESULT: Wales..2 USA..2
Brain
Flynn’s new set of youngsters were held to a 2-2 draw
by the USA at Rhyl this afternoon. It was a header by
Kayne Mclaggon four minutes from time that earned the
Under 17s a deserved draw.
The Wales squad was made-up of a new intake of players, all of whom will
be eligible for next seasons UEFA Under 17 championship.
Wales opened
brightly and the new team seemed to come together well, testing the USA
keeper on a number of occasions. The Americans, in Britain and Europe for a
series of matches were on the back foot for much of the first half, but were
perhaps a little unlucky to go a goal down to a penalty. Jon Brown stumbling
in the box, and referee Brian Lawlor pointing to the spot. Sam Wade, one of
the smallest players on the pitch took the kick and slotted it home to the
goalies left. That was after 17 minutes, and Wales continued to press for the
rest of the half, but the USA got back in the match thanks to a great far
post header from their skilful midfielder Ellis McLoughlin five minutes from
half time.
In the second half the Americans came in to the game far more
and the game developed in to a very even contest. Wales manager, Brian Flynn
rang the changes with five substitutions during the half, and one of them,
Kayne McLaggon was on hand to score a great headed goal to even the match up
again in the 74th minute, two minutes after the Americans had taken the
lead through McLoughlin once more.
In truth the sides were well
matched, and a draw was the right result on an afternoon of great endeavour,
watched by a crowd of some 300 fans, many of whom were the proud families of
the Welsh lads on display.
Wales skipper, Aaron Ramsey of Cardiff City
was particularly outstanding, giving a hard working performance in the centre
of midfield, and David Jones, born in Germany of Welsh parents and playing
for HSV Hamburg's youth side looked very assured in the right back spot.

Saturday
24th September:
RESULTS: Kazakhstan 1 Switzerland
4 Wales 2 Estonia 0 (Chris Gunter,
Christian Ribiero)
Match Report from FAW. The Wales goals came from a penalty by Chris Gunter after 46 minutes and
a second a 25-yard right foot drive from Christian Ribeiro after 75 minutes. The result leaves Wales
in second place on 4 points, behind Switzerland on 6 points. Wales were
good value for the win after a goalless first half that saw Wales miss
several chances.
Switzerland were always in control against
Kazakhstan, going 3-0 up by half time. Goals from Fabian Frei (13m), Gianluca
Frontino (16m), Michel Morganella (35m). The Kazakhs did get one back on 49
minutes through Baurzhan Seissenbekov but substitute for Switzerland, Abraham
Keller made it four after 70 minutes.
Kazakhstan had a player sent off
in the 80th minute, when Yerzat Kenbaev was adjudged to have committed a
dangerous tackle.

Thursday
22nd September RESULT: Wales 2 Kazakhstan 2
at Cae
y Castell, Flint. - Half time 0-1
Match Report from FAW.
A
crowd of over 300 saw the Wales youngsters fall
behind to a 33rd minute goal at Flint from Rishat Khasanov
after the home side had missed an 18th minute penalty,
taken by Chris Jones. A second penalty came Wales' way
after three minutes of the second half which also saw
the Khazakstan player Elshad Khinizov sent off for a
push. This time Carl Jones scored to make it 1-1.
Kazakstan
deservedly retook the lead two minutes later with a
great shot from 20 yards from Rishat Khasanov once again
which Welsh keeper Rhys Taylor was unsighted for. Amazingly,
Wales were awarded a third penalty after 71 minutes
which Carl Jones saw saved. The game was level only
three minutes later when Chris Jones netted, and that
it how things stayed.
Wales: Rhys Taylor, Chris
Gunter, Neil Taylor, Scott Evans, James Wilson, Paul
Williams, Mark Jones, Carl Jones, Christian Ribeiro,
Mika Chunuonsee, Chris Jones. Subs: Oliver Hewitt-Fisher
for Paul Williams (52m), Max Noble for Mark Jones (70m).

OTHER
RESULT: Switzerland 5 Estonia 1. A one sided
match at Rhyl saw Switzerland dominate the entire game
and lead 3-0 at half time with goals from Valentin Stocker
2 (16 & 27), Gianluca Frontino (24). Frontino scored
again after five minutes of the second half before Estonia
got one back through Ranner Pak, but Switzerland stepped
up another gear and Abraham Keller made it five with
two minutes to go.
